Professor Adewale Oladapo DIPEOLU (CENTS Director)

Professor Adewale Oladapo DIPEOLU is a professor of Agricultural Economics at the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta (FUNAAB).  He joined services of FUNAAB (then known as the Federal University of Technology (FUTAB)) in 1984 as an Assistant Lecturer. Adewale graduated with a Second Class honours (Upper Division) from the Department of Economics from the University of Ife, Ile-Ife (now known as the Obafemi Awolowo University) and went on to do a Masters in Economics at the University of Ibadan where he was awarded a Postgraduate Scholarship. Thereafter he obtained a PhD in Agricultural Economics in 2000.

Prof. Dipeolu’s services at the University had earned him several letters of commendation  amongst which are Letter of Commendation from Governing Council, University of Agriculture, Abeokuta for the successful installation of VSAT facility in the University and the immense contribution to the         growth and development of UNAAB Consult on 15th May, 2002; Letter of Appreciation and Commendation from Vice Chancellor, University of Agriculture, Abeokuta for Selflessness, commitment in participating in maiden edition of the Research and Development Fair organized by the National Universities Commission) in November, 2004 and a Letter of Appreciation in September 2006 from the Acting Vice Chancellor, University of Agriculture, Abeokuta for Selfless service; dedication to duty and dynamism during tenure as Director, UNAAB Consult.

During his sabbatical at the Bells University of Technology in 2007, he was the Foundation Dean of the College of Management Sciences, a feat which was later recognized when the College of Management Sciences in FUNAAB was to be established. He was among the experts that drew up the curriculum for the Economics department and assisted in the initial recruitment exercise for the College.

He has had considerable experience in collaborative research and projects such as: Collaborating Social Scientist in the DFID Sponsored Research Project (A0898) on: The Commercialization of Traditional Foods and Sustainable Rural Livelihoods (1999-2002); Collaborating Social Scientist in the European Union Sponsored Research Project on the Development of Small and Medium Scale Enterprises for producing Cassava based products to meet Urban demand In West Africa (2003-2006); Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist, C:AVA project Nigeria, (sponsored by the  Bill and Melinda Gate Foundation (April 2009 to 2012); Participant, AAU- MRCI Partnership for Regional Food Developers Initiative; Participant, Education Partnerships in Africa, (Developing Entrepreneurial skills among graduates of organic agriculture in Nigeria / The Work, Learn, Earn programme (WELP) for developing entrepreneurship in organic agriculture in Nigeria);

Prof. Dipeolu is currently the Team leader of the Diversified Products Value Chain of the Sweetpotato for Heath and Wealth Project in Nigeria. He is also  the Team Leader in Nigeria of the ACP/EU funded EDULINK project titled ‘‘Enhancing of Capacities on International Agriculture Agreements for Development of Regional Agriculture And Food Markets’’ taking place in four countries in the west African sub-region.

Prof Dipeolu has been the President of the UNAAB Staff Cooperative Society (now Cooperative Multipurpose Society) since 1998; a position that has earned him a seat on the Board of Directors of the UNAAB MicroFinance Bank. He has held such positions as the Director UNAAB Consult – the revenue-generating unit of the University from 2001 to 2006; and Head of Department of Agricultural Economics and Farm Management from March 2010 to March 2014. He is currently the Director of the Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies in FUNAAB. He is widely published in local and international journals and has supervised numerous students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
